My name is Jessie Zhu and a fun fact about me is I absolutely love food! However, recently I've come to realize that thus far in my life, I have yet to produce something edible from a pot and stove besides over cooked ramen and boiled water. Therefore my goal in the next two years of high school is to gain first hand experience in the usage of kitchen appliances! On a slightly different note, other goals for the next two years include maintaining my GPA and improving my work/study efficiency. Over the summer I've developed a theory that if I consistently build upon my knowledge throughout a semester, I will be far more confident and prepared for course exams than if I were to power study the few weeks before (duh!). I hope that by testing this theory, I will also prevent a lot of unnecessary stress this school year.
Outside of school, the one thing that really geeks me out is playing the violin. I've been playing since I was five years old and I can honestly say that nothing makes me happier than making music with and for others!
This past March (3 days before my birthday) I had the honor of performing a concerto as a soloist with my youth orchestra. The experience taught me a great deal about being a performer and leader. It made me realize that even though I got to wear a fancy dress and stand out, my real purpose was to be a single voice in the grand scheme of the piece. It didn't matter how well I played because what made the music work was how I communicated with the other voices. The actual performance was in and of itself a spectacular moment for me. It was exhilarating playing without a care in the world for the imperfections and knowing that the music we produced together was telling a story to the audience.
Another fun fact about me: I'm kind of a scaredy cat. As you can see from the picture, I used to absolutely hate snow and for the sole reason that I didn't know what it was, how it came to be, and why it was so freaking cold! Now, 13 years later, even though I've grown to love snow, I'm still a little terrified of things I don't understand. So if I had to choose ONE super power, mine would also have to be super knowledge. If I could know everything there was to know about the world, I wouldn't have a reason to be afraid of anything!
But since I don't have super knowledge, I have to rely on my resources to learn about the things I don't understand. For this reason, my favorite website by far is https://www.google.com/. All the knowledge I could ever hope to acquire is mine, so long as I have internet...
