Blog #2

Technology is a wonderful thing. With it, it allows me to carry my entire iTunes library/CD collection in my pocket. I love music as much as most other teenagers tend to say, so having this ability is amazing. I listen to music at almost every possible moment: while I'm getting ready, walking to school, doing homework, reading, and even when I'm sleeping. I probably use my iPod more than I use my phone, to be quite honest. I love music because it is always there to make me smile or to help me pass the time. Words sung along to music always seem so much more heartfelt and so much more meaningful than regular speaking. Basically, if you get me talking about music, you won't be able to get me to stop.

My playlist for a sunny day would be as follows:

  1. First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes - this was the first Bright Eyes song I ever heard and it's exactly what got me listening to more of Conor Oberst's music. It's a very basic love song stripped of most of the cheesiness usually associated with them. The lyrics are so honest and simple and sweet and that's probably why I love it so much.
  2. I'm Ready by Jack's Mannequin - picking a Jack's Mannequin song was very difficult for me. I knew I wanted one from his first album Everything in Transit, but nine out of eleven of those songs are arguably happy, sunny day songs. I decided on this track because it's my absolute favorite of all his songs; every time I listen to this song I immediately smile. It's best enjoyed while driving with the windows down on a clear, sunny day (Optional: shout the lyrics along.)
  3. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel - almost every playlist I have has this song on it. It reminds me of last year and really great memories with my friends. It also makes me feel philosophical and insignificant yet very significant at the same time. I imagine myself lying in the grass in the late afternoon on a sunny day every time I listen to this song.
  4. Some Nights by fun. - I was torn between this song and another fun. song. Nate Ruess's voice is so beautiful and lovely and various other adjectives. This song is one of their more "personal" ones on their newer album and is honestly one I can relate to my life. I love to sing along to every word.
  5. A-Punk by Vampire Weekend - this song is one of the only songs that instantly makes me think of summer. I can only listen to it on sunny, warm days because it's so upbeat and in my opinion is solely a summer song. It's hard to understand the lyrics most of the song, but I still love it.
