A World In Pictures

This picture was taken right before a tsunami hit in 2004. It killed thousands when it hit Sumatra, Indonesia. What especially stuck out to me were the facts i learned while doing my research, though. The tsunami followed after the 3rd largest earthquake struck just 10 minutes before, it was ranked the 6th deadliest natural disaster ever recorded, and it was also on the day after Christmas.

This picture mostly shocks me. In addition to that, it changed not only a community of people, but an entire nation and areas surrounding it.

It provokes me to think about what those people were thinking when it happened. Were they expecting it? Were the people in the cars on the road directly beside it saying their last prayers? Did others believe the worst to be over after the earthquake?

The picture is so calm. If the tsunami was simply cropped out, it'd look like just another city on any normal day. It basically makes me ponder about how anything can happen at anytime, and we never really know.
