How often do you use your ipod (or phone or whatnot)? What is your perfect playlist for ____ (fill in the blank - it could be your perfect playlist for a sunny day, for a road trip, for thanksgiving, etc.) Choose 5 songs, note the song and artist and why you chose this song.
So yeah, now that I recently learned how to import music to my iPhone (two weeks ago), I already have 30 albums by 22 artists, over 343 songs. Yeah I know that is a really meager amount of music especially when you compare that to people like Hank who have a fill 80GB catalog. But in my opinion, this is the perfect combination of music choice, while still not wasting space. Anyway, my favorite time to listen to my iPhone is right after school on the 30 minute bus ride home. Basically it's a time for me to let out my inner demons and loosen up/brighten up after the sometimes monotous task of going to school. So no, my music is not frilly classical music to reflect upon my day to and to serve as enlightenment on the classical arts. No, I mainly just lip sync to old alternative rock and head "bob" to heavy metal, as apposed to head banging which would probably annoy my seat partner. Anyway here are five songs that really get me pumped up after a long day at school (not in any order or necessarily my favorite songs, just my selection):
1. Fuel-Metallica:
Excellent song! Love the intro, quickly going from the first lyric, dropping down into great guitar shredding by Kirk Hammett. That fast paced guitar, excellent drumwork, and great lyrics for lip syncing make this song perfect to drive to. Quoting James Hetfield, this song just makes you want to jump in your car and roar at a hundred miles per hour down an interstate.
2. For Whom the Bell Tolls-Metallica:
Best intro to a rock song, possibly ever! Two minutes of rocking guitar and bass, mixed with the drone of the bell is a perfect combination. Also, the lyrics are very powerful and really carry the message of the song, the atrocity of war and the tolling of that bell.
3. Even Flow- Pearl Jam:
Now this song isn't super based aroung the guitar, there is no epic guitar shredding in this song. But the lyrics and the singing talent of Eddie Veder is so evident in this song with so many hooks you'll be singing this song all day the first time you hear it. And with the cooler, relaxing timbre of the song, it really does help relax someone if they are stressed after a day of school.
4.Slow Cheetah- Red Hot Chili Peppers:
Remember when I said my music choices don't match? Well yeah, here's a great example! ^ As opposed to the heavier fast paced stuff mentioned above, this song is really airy and acoustic (rarity for the RHCP). The acoustic melody in the song is five kinds of relaxing, and the vocals of Anthony Kiedis are beautiful.
5. Would?- Alice in Chains:
Really, really engaging emotional song about giving up and caving to your inner demon/vices. The guitar and drums are pretty good in this song, but by no means the best of Alice (try the song Rooster), however Layne Staley is an awesome singer and really let's his emotions flow out this song. This can be seen in the final minute of the song which has some of the best vocals I have ever heard out of him. Especially the last line!
So there you have it folks. My weird assortment of songs that sound good when you are driving home, except I am only fifteen and can't drive yet. :( Anyway you guys should really try out Metallica and Pearl Jam. Those two are some of the best bands of the 20th century, and barely anybody knows about them! Please give em' a shot. I'm out.
