This is a picture from the BP Oil Spill in 2010. It shows an aerial view of the oil that was present in the ocean. Just before this picture, there was an explosion at a BP-owned oil drilling site, allowing ridiculous amounts of oil to contaminate the ocean.
I picked this picture as one that shocked the world because we could all see the horrible effects of the oil spill, and it's even more shocking since it went on for months. This picture provokes me to think about all the ocean life the suffered due to this mistake and all the resources we lost. It also provokes me to think about how frantic the situation was, because no one really knew what to do.
This picture is also sad to look at because the ocean should be a a beautiful shade of blue, but instead, it's a disgusting, dirty brown.
