
This picture depicts a woman several days after Katrina hit the New Orleans area. The caption of this photo states, "Evelyn Turner cries alongside the body of her common-law husband, Xavier Bowie, after he died in New Orleans on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005. Bowie and Turner had decided to ride out Hurricane Katrina when they could not find a way to leave the city. Bowie, who had lung cancer, died when he ran out of oxygen Tuesday afternoon." This woman has one of the millions of Katrina stories that ruined millions of people's lives. Katrina forced people out of their homes, devastated New Orleans, and caused too many tragedies like this one. I can't even begin to imagine how Evelyn Turner feels in this picture; to say that she was upset and mourning would be an understatement of the highest degree. Meanwhile, outside of the frame, there are thousands of other people trapped in this giant, flooded city. Here's an above-ground view:
