Blog #3

I do not believe there is absolute good or evil. As much as I would love to say that I believe there is, life is just not as simple as that. To quote Donnie Darko, "You can't just lump things into two categories. Things aren't that simple." (Although he's talking about Fear vs. Love, I believe this applies well--he's even talking about someone who returns a wallet without taking the money. Fairly relevant if I say so myself.)
Every person in the world is caught in that grey area between good and evil. Good people do bad things just as bad people do good things. A war between good and evil makes for great storylines, but real life does not work in that way. We are all at wrong at some point in our lives about something. Even the interpretations of "good" vs. "evil" are different for everyone. What one person may see as "good" may seem "evil" to another. Morality is fluid and defining the absolute ends of the spectrum is difficult. That being said, good and evil really don't necessarily have to exist considering we all fall in the range between them. However, if they were to cease existing, life would become messy and confusing. Teaching children right vs. wrong would be horrific. We need the stories of absolute good defeating absolute evil so we ourselves can learn how to become a better people. But concerning ourselves with being completely good or completely evil is unnecessary, and, quite frankly, impossible.
