War
War is a terrible thing. It means the loss of thousands of lives, incredible expenses, and little gain. So why do we have wars? That's a question that many people wonder about. I think countries use war as a "final statement". When negotiations and compromises fail, war becomes the ultimate means of a power-struggle. I don't know if there's ever a time for war. I think opinions over this issue differ with each situation. For example Americans of our generation, who often take liberties for granted, might say that war is never worth the losses. And that there are always more peaceful ways to resolve conflicts. However, if you ask the colonists who fought for the liberties we have, they might say "give me liberty or give me death" and the freedoms we have today were worth the fighting. I would love to say that war is never an acceptable alternative, however, thinking realistically, there are too many conflicts in the world for them to all be settled peacefully and harmoniously.
