"War means tears to thousands of mothers' eyes when their sons go to fight and lose their lives."
Throughout my life, my mother has always told my brother and I that should we ever have to go to war, that there are ways to get out of going directly into the line of fire, and possibly going into a different field instead. Because of this, I've pretty much always been terrified of it.
I'm honestly not sure how to answer this blog. I believe in war because that means that you feel that there's something out there worth fighting for. At the same time, though, I feel I can't condone violence. I know I can't condone violence, and I won't.
So then why do we teach our soldiers to go out and do the exact opposite of what our mothers teach us? Why do we tell someone that it's okay to kill people when our own laws prohibit it?
"Because it's for the sake of our country and our beliefs."
But is that not the same reason that our enemy is fighting? And since when are we an intolerant people? Our country was built on tolerance and freedom, were we not?
"Well then we're going to be taken over by [insert cuss words followed by a group of people here.]"
Do you honestly believe that the country of our enemy isn't thinking the same thing?
Just because you believe something doesn't make it right, and that means that just because you believe in a war or in a cause, that doesn't make it acceptable to hurt people for it.
The sappy, cliche thing to say would be, "Can't we all just get along?"
And so I'll say it.
Can't we all just get along? Mediators were made for a reason people.
From this there comes alliances and stances within the country, and so, from war and disagreements, comes the essential splitting of the world.
So what do we do about it?
I really don't know.
But I so wish I did.
