Good Advice
My middle school teachers used to always tell me to set goals for myself but I never bothered thinking about it. Most of the time I just daydreamed about the ways my life could be better. But, in high school, when I started actually thinking about the many things I could work at to achieve, setting goals helped to provide structure to everything I wanted to accomplish. I finished my homework every day not just because my teachers told me to, but because I wanted to maintain a decent GPA. I started being more productive in practicing not just because my teacher wanted me to, but because I wanted to go to All State and NSO-SMI. Setting goals made accomplishments much more rewarding and also easier. Having goals meant that I had to come up with a plan for how I would achieve whatever it was that I wanted to work towards. Although many of us unconsciously set goals for ourselves, it helped me to realize the purpose behind everything I do.
