Most of the advice I have been given is baloney. Probably
the closest that I have gotten to a great piece of advice is to be myself. A
few years ago I was starting my first solo in dance. I was always really timid
on stage. My teacher would tell me that I looked really nervous and unsure of
myself. My mom knew that I was really this crazy kid that wasn’t usually timid.
She told I just needed to be myself onstage and to forget about that competition
and the people watching. Now I realize that this piece of advice does not only
apply to dance. It applies to my everyday life. The only way other people are
going to truly understand me is if I am myself. If I am shy around people or if
I try to be someone I am not then no one will understand me or really know me.
It’s best to just be myself.
