Back Straight!

“Back straight!” or “Sit up straight.” It’s a piece of advice, or command, that we have all heard time and time again. While it may sound strange, I consider this to be one of the most valuable pieces of advice I have received. Honestly, sitting up straight compared to slouching tells a lot about a person. When a person sits up straight or walks with their back straight and their head held high it says that that person is most likely confident and cares about their appearance. When I say care about appearance, I mean it in a professional way. Let me create a scenario. You are looking to hire someone to be your secretary. You interview two people. Both are brunettes. Both are 5’ 6’’ tall. They both speak well. They are both wearing a nice black dress. The two are exactly the same. However, one comes in slouching, while sitting and standing. The other comes in standing tall, back straight, and shoulders back. Who sounds better fit to be the first person a customer sees when they walk into your company? The slouched woman or the woman with her perfect posture? This is why I consider back straight to be some of the most important advice I have received. When a person stands or sits with a back straight they simply look more confident.
