Advice

A piece of advice that has stuck with me throughout the years, is my father telling me never to assume anything. It is important to not assume things because that leaves things to chance and errors will occur. He told a story about how one of his co-workers assumed that an order had already been sent. The order was in fact not sent and cost the company thousands of dollars. This advice stuck with me because of an acronym he taught me. Assuming something is bad for all parties involved, so the acronym is ASS to U and ME. Although this is very rudimentary, it gets the message across; assuming things is a bad idea. This may seem very skeptical because it is usually okay to assume that things will be done, but I believe it is important to be sure and leave nothing to chance. This lesson has taught me to be more independent because I rarely rely on others unless I trust them a lot. I prefer to do things myself, take my time, and make sure nothing is wrong rather than simply assuming someone else will do it correctly.
