Turntable

Soundtrack: "Neigborhood #1 (Tunnels)" - Arcade Fire - Funeral (Merge Records - 2004)

My life is a sedentary one. However, this suits me just fine because none of my legs are long enough to support locomotion. Considering I spend all of my time in one place, I am lucky to have a nice home. Hank's father fashioned it from cherry, and its sturdy frame and smooth top are the perfect combination of support and comfort. I am positioned so that I face outwards into a vast space, lights gracefully emphasize my presence. Whenever folks visit, I cannot help but feel that I am the center of their attentions. I do very little, but I do all that is in my capability, and I think that this is enough. I am not one for conversation, but there is certainly a dialogue in the way Hank operates my features, lifts my arm and then gracefully lowers it. My true passion is for music, something he and I apparently share. The first song I ever listened to is linked above - such a beautiful song. Hank is always bringing me new records, each different from the last. I've never heard a thing that I haven't enjoyed. He places the record on my platter, and I smoothly spin the round slab. He gently lowers my arm, and I run my finger along the grooves of the vinyl letting each frequency vibrate through my body. The experience is exhilarating. When I reach the center, I raise my arm myself for I cannot bear to wait for the record to be flipped to the b-side, for this album to be exchanged for another, for my listening to encompass all that this world has to offer.
