Harris Qazi

Soundtrack: "My Girls" - Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion (Domino - 2009)

I first met Harris riding the zero hour bus to seminar freshman year. We first became truly acquainted when bonding over the above song, Animal Collective's breakthrough pop masterpiece "My Girls". Harris is perhaps most notable for his school anxiety. Determined to do well so that he can have a prosperous future (and partly to sate his parents), he works hard and seized each academic opportunity. He claims to stay up every night studying for his classes, and consequently sleeps in class all day. But these things are the least important and hardly telling of who Harris truly is. In his best moments, he is lighthearted, eager, and genuine. Sometimes, as all of us, he falters in his virtues, but he never loses his legitimacy. Harris is one of the only people I know who is a true character. He is terribly funny even unintentionally at times and always has a great story. Sometimes, he does rather inflammatory things and stirs up great anger, even in me, but he is never hateful - he doesn't mean it. If you hate Harris, you have not truly understood him. In the end, he is a good friend and a refreshingly individual person.
