On October 11th, 1975, the first episode of Saturday Night Live premiered. At the time, it was called NBC's Saturday Night, and it was only supposed to have six episodes. Since then, Saturday Night Live has grown into one of the most recognized late-night comedy shows. If you were to ask any random person in the United States whether or not they know of SNL, chances are they'll say yes. This show cleverly turns political issues and problems into laughable situations that anyone could find funny.
In my opinion, SNL is a very good thing. It brings light to different political ideas, and also has other skits that are just simply funny. The show has certainly made many of my Saturday nights more amusing than they would have been without it.
Saturday Night Live definitely has a huge influence on our whole nation and probably many different parts of the world. It can, for starters, shape the public's opinion on certain topics or, during an election season, even political candidates. Many of the political impersonations by cast members are completely hysterical, and they are very effective in creating specific images for certain candidates. For instance, Tina Fey's version of Sarah Palin is overly idiotic, and that's probably how a lot of people view her. This year, NBC is giving SNL more time to do these impressions on Thursday nights, as well as Saturdays because the network understands that people watch the show and gain opinions about people and ideas. The show probably helps to inspire many of the political opinions of people in our country.
