One piece of advice that has stuck with me is the quote “I
can bear any pain as long as it has meaning.” It really is hard narrowing down
my favorite Murakami quotes, but I feel like this one has truly stuck with me
the most. Through all the pain I’ve experienced in the past few years, this
quote always helps me pull through. When I’m sad or upset I just think of what
good this pain may bring me. It closely ties into the saying that everything
happens for a reason, which also strikes close to home. While I am not
religious, I do believe there is a reason for everything that happens. When I
am pained I just think about what the meaning of the pain is. What good will
come out of it. And, 99% of the time, I can think of a meaning for the pain,
and 100% of the time, it eases the said pain. I owe a lot to Murakami, but this
quote is definitely the reason for most of my indebtedness to him.
